 In 1872 William Young founded his building and decoratoring merchants at No. 5 Romford Road, Stratford. He was later joined by H. H. Marten to form the compnay of Young & Marten Ltd.

H. M. S. Warrior -1

Thames Ironworks built the largest war vessel then afloat.    The H. M. S. "Warrior" was launched from the Canning Town yard on December 29th 1860 and was the first iron-built, iron-clad fighting vessel accepted by the Royal Navy.

Peter Holt, Thames Ironworks.

When C. J. Mare was made bankrupt in 1856, his father-in-law Peter Holt took over the engineering & shipbuilding firm and reformed it as  The Thames Ironworks.                                                                               from an illustration in "Thames Ironworks" Gazette March 1898.

The original founder of what became The Thames Ironworks, shipbuilding and Engineering Co, Ltd. He opened his works on the Canning Town side of Bow Creek in 1846 as C. J. Mare & Co.
