The Rt. Hon. Sir Frederick Elwyn-Jones, CH., PC., MP., was Labour MP for the Plaistow Constituency (later West Ham South) from 1945-1974, during which time he rose to the highest legal offices in the land.
Will Thorne, who lived in Plaistow, helped to establish the National Union of Gasworkers & General Labourers. He later became a Councillor, Alderman and Mayor of West Ham.
The Rt. Hon Stephen first entered Parliament through a by-election in 1994 as MP for Newham North East, being re-elected to the new constituency of East Ham in May, 1997
