This aerial view shows only a part of the vast Stratford Railway Works that stood on this site.
The view, taken in the 1960/70's, shows that part of the works close to the Angel Lane area. In the centre can be seen the Temple Mills end of the "Cambridge Branch" platforms. The main lines to and from London Liverpool street run left-to-right at the top of the photograph. Note the small, almost cottage-like, houses in the foreground hard against the Works boundary wall.
The works covered many acres and every aspect of railway engineering and maintenance were carried out there - from building and repairs locomotives and rolling stock to printing tickets.
