Miss Rebecca Halley Cheetham was the first warden of the Canning Town Women's Settlement for 25 years from 1892.

She remained actively connected with the work until not long before her death at the Settlement House in 1939. Miss Cheetham had been a co-opted member of the West Ham Education Committee from its inception in 1903 until her death. The nursery in Marcus Street, Stratford, opened in 1930, is named after her.
