Abbey Mill House and Cottages, 1932

The Channelsea bridge in Abbey Lane with Abbey Flour Mill to the left and the ivy clad Abbey Mill House to the right. Behind the row of cottages is Ingham Clark Varnish Works and beyond that can be seen the roof of the Adam and Eve public house. West Ham Pumping Station is situated on the site in the foreground. All of the buildings have long since been demolished and today it houses the Jubilee line depot and sidings. Its hard to imagine that this busy scene was once the location of the greast Cistercian abbey of Stratford Langthorne.
