Armistice Day

To commemorate the 91st anniversary of the end of the First World War, a Remembrance Day Service will take place on Wednesday 11 November at Newham Town Hall.

Residents are invited to observe a two minute silence, which will take place at 11am sharp outside the main entrance of Newham Town Hall, Barking Road, East Ham E6 2RP.

Hosted by Mayor Sir Robin Wales, Cllr Unmesh Desai and Cllr Quintin Peppiatt, the ceremony will welcome members of the British Legion, who will perform the Last Post at 10.59am and 'Exhortation & Kohima' - a piece of music composed by John Tavener, commissioned by the British Legion especially for the Festival of Remembrance.

Guests are asked to assemble on the steps at the front of the Town Hall from 10.45am for the ceremony, which should last no more than 30 minutes. There will be refreshments available directly afterwards in the Main Hall where First World War items and photographs relating to Newham will be on display.
