As it was in newham waterden road e15 I think it needs a mention.I used to go ,on a friday evening,as it was a walk down carpenters road ,where i lived.I think it was about 1967 I took my,then, girlfriend with me and it was one of the funniest .It was a cool evening and we elected to retreat to the covered stand. The couple next to us were watching when there was a bit of a commotion and it turned out that a pigeon had made a deposit on her shoulder.A few minutes later my girlfriend said"help!"I looked and couldnt see anything until she said look at my glasses the pigeon had managed to "bomb" the inside of her glasses.
I laughed so much I nearly wet myself she asked if I had a tissue .What did I do?I came out with the perenial line"Dont be silly,it will be miles away by now"she laughed....eventually and yes we are still together.
I went with an old friend of mine to one of the last meetings at hackney on june20,1996 another bit of history lost.
