Hello John
Am new to this site so have just been trolling through the forums when I saw your post. Is this the same Frank who went to Stratford Grammar in the 60's? I well remember a Frank Le(i)tch being there and seeing him writing with his toes, an amazing man, alway wondered what became of him.

Hello John Thanks for your reply about Frank, what an amazing man he's turned out to be and such an inspiration. I remember him so well from school although he's a couple of years older than me. I've had my own problem to deal with as I became totally deaf when I was 27, but like Frank I've tried to work with it and have been fortunate to have a cochlear implant which means I hear a lot again now. Life throws you lemons so you try to make lemonade! Best wishes Jenny

Hi Jem pleased I made you smile! Sounds like you've been through it a bit too, hope the hearing aids have been a success and the varifocals too! Comes to us all in time it seems. Hang on to the teeth though if you can and enjoy the vodka and lemonade!!!

Jayne, I got varifocals and hated them so much I couldn't wear them and have been walking around like Mr Magoo for the last 2 years. I kept moving my head to get used to the different focuses. The woman said you adjust and start moving your eyes instead - but I didn't At the time I bought them (In Tesco) they said that if I couldn't get on with them I had a 'short time' to change my mind. I stupidly left it for ages - far too long to try to change them for fixed focus. I even opted for the supposedly top of the range version (apparently there are 3 levels) but not for me. Make sure you get the opt-out! - not sure what the situation is with my eyes as I have to go to the hospital every 6 months as I don't have glaucoma YET they say - just high pressure that needs to be monitored. I just wear cheap 3.5 magnification reading glasses to read my book/kindle and hope for the best when driving Mark

Mark I did it the opposite to you! Got the both pairs lasted six months got fed up with changing them over. They ok but I wear my normal distance for driving. Am heading for Canterbury tomorrow if I see a mr Magoo driving on a wing and a pray I will avoid Jenny you got to smile haven't you! I actually love having hearing aids it great to unplug when I need to always get a great nights sleep can't hear hubby snoring but I still kick him anyway just in case Sorry hijacked to talk ailments!

I got the 2 pairs as recommended by Vision Express about 4/5 years ago. It was a pain then as I had just started at uni - so during a lecture I had to keep changing backwards and forwards between looking at the lecturer/board and writing notes. I had to give it up (ailments! ) so now I think I will be OK with 2 pairs. Mark

I seem to have started something on here with hearing aids and varifocals!!! We will probably get booted off but just had to say what an inspiration Frank Letch is.
Good luck folks with sorting out your glasses and your hearing aids.
Just keep on making the lemonade, even though it doesn't always turn out right!
