Louise, Yor mention of Ivy Round the Old Garden Wall triggered a memory of the 60's. I used to help run a youth club then and we staged an Old Tyme musical hall for the then older folk. I had to learn most of the music hall songs of by heart and have always remembered them.
In a way I wished you had not mentioned it as I now have "She's my Sweetheart, I'm her Beau" continually repeating in my mind.

Mick Hi,
Another great favourite for you to have in your head is Danny Boy, this might take away the previous one.
Every time this was sung I would cry my eyes out as my dear Aunty Em. lost her 18 year old Son in 1940 in the Royal Navy (They were in Laindon - from Butchers Road,Custom House) her daughter Marjie & I were great friends so I went down to stay once and Aunt Em played that all day long on her Gramaphone.

Re a comment in the last episode "Busy with the Stardrops" - was this quite popular then? - I have seen it around for years and even now it looks quite old fashioned. I bought some a couple of years ago and it lasted ages. I used it when I wanted to scrub a path down or something without using disinfectant. Mark

Mark, I had never heard of it when mentioneds the other night.
Took it for granted I had misunderstood the statement, but now you have brought it to life again.
Where did you see it and which kind of shop did you purchase it from, expensive, cheap? thought over the years I had heard of all cleaning agents but not this one?
Mind you nothing like a good old bucket of soap and water even washing up liquid with a handful of Soda.

Louise. Just go to Google and enter Stardops Cleaner. You will find plenty of references and ads come up.

Louise - It is yellow liquid, similar to washing up liquid, but it is much thicker, although it doesn't lather as much. The bottle looks like a large bottle of washing up liquid. You only need a tiny squirt in a bucket of water. I used to think it was more of a Northern thing and this link confirms it http://www.thorntonandross.co.uk/household/stardrops.htmlI think I got mine in Tesco, but apparently only Asda sell it now (maybe Wilkinsons too) Mark PS - It is about £2 but on offer in Asda for £1.39. Lasts a lot longer than most cleaners!

Mark & Mick, Thank you for info. on Star Drops cleaner, I can honestly say I have never ever come across it in my shopping days (which have been many), I shop in all the Super Markets mentioned but do not even recognise the Colouring or Logo. Now this has come about bet your life I shall see it in every shop I go to. Ta to all Louise.

Just a little addition to 'call the Midwife', excuse the pun! A lady I know here in Swindon was a midwife in the 50's/60's in Poplar and she did indeed live in a convent.

In tonights episode they played a Louis Prima 1956 hit, which points to the error of calling West and East Ham "Newham" approximately 10 years before we had even heard of it which I think wasn't named that until, I believe, 1966?

I missed it tonight and will have to wait for the repeat due to a power cut between 6.30pm and 9.30pm My neighbour was out in the street at 6.30pm and was panicking about whether it would be back on in time for Call the Midwife Mark

nellanhoj, Spotted the Newham mistake as well, and having worked in the Docks for years , there was certainly no public access to the Dockside Wharves and Sheds as this series portrays, but a nice sensible storyline and well acted.
Mark, If you don't get your juice connected and want to know tonights story I'm sure the ladies will fill you in tomorrow.
All the best Ed
