Does anybody remember the family who run the farm close to Cypress Gardens years ago. You, back then could access this farm from the Connaught end, or at least you was able to. I suspect the farm has disappeared. How ever, some years ago I went on a short sea trip to northen Spain. On the return journey we made friends with a family, one of which as female claimed to be a Bedall girl. She did explain that she had little to do with the farm at the time but she assured us that she was part of the Bedall family. Does anybody remember, I have pictures of her. Bill Ewing.

Bill

There is an article about Bedalls Farm on the main Newham Story Website. It is under Places (Beckton) and at the moment is on page 5.

Hello Doug and thanks. I have found the article you named. There is an odd litle story to go with this, Well to beginwith we use to go on to Beddall farm when we were kids. We entered the connaught way which needed navigaing a short distance of railway track. Once on the open farm we could see the cattle scattered all over. We headed toward the Cyprus Gardens where we had to pass some allotments. Armed with several strong sacks we wnt scrumping for rhubarb. There was masses of it. Once sacks all filled we legged it quickly to Rathbone street market. Traders, along with some queer looks from certain toby men allowed us to flog off what we had. Are you by any chance a Taylor. Bill

My surname is Taylor but although my father settled in Manor Park after the 2nd World War and worked for East Ham Council and then Jenson & Nicholson in Carpenters Road he originates from Tollesbury in Essex although family circumstances meant that much of his childhood was spent in the Maida Vale area of London

Doug, thanks for your reply. I am now about to do some research down Cornwall way. At least that's where she told us she lived, and it is now some ten to twelve years ago. Doug, when we lived in what's now called Newham, we lived in Denmark Street, Plaistow. A road by the name Avenons Road ran off of Denmark Street and it housed a Family of Taylors. Len, Reginald, and Leslie. Reg had the nickname of Kipper, for some reason. Any relationships? Bill.

Billyboyo - so it was you then ?
My grandad lived in Savage Gardens which overlooked the farm ,and he had an allotment which is where the park is now .
(but I don't remember him saying his rhubarb was always going missing)

Hello, Not Cypress Gardens, but Savage Gardens. The farm was at the top of Savage, next to the two prefabs that were there. I lived there from 1962 to 1977, when Savage gardens had gained some notoriety - although it was a very nice, detached place in the early years I lived there. We used to ride our motorbikes over the farm fields, and were regularly chased off!
