Last Evening listening to my Radio (on a Station I cannot mention),
That lovely Singer Anne Shelton sung the  Nightingale sung in Berkley Square.

Am I correct in thinking she also like Dame Vera came from our parts, if not East Ham/ West Ham
nearbye. Huh

Sorry!this is probably one for the older posters of our Forum.

Anne Shelton used to live on the road that backed onto mine where I lived  and was born in Dulwich Village just after the end of the war. That always sticks in my mind as my father always used to say "Anne Shelton lives down there", as we passed the end of her road. In the end I knew he was going to say that before he said it.

  Hi Mick,

I know exactly what you mean.

In fact I have to be very careful these days as I can easily repeat history in the same way.

Not going to my filing system but did you not post re the Burning of the Crystal Palace
and told how close your parents had lived and had a real Bus Outing to get there.

Hello Louise,

Yes I did write about my parents going off to watch the Crystal Palace burn down along with a few thousand other spectators. I was also contacted by the Dulwich On View website run by the Dulwich Art Gallery who had read my articles on my own website. I was asked to write a series of articles on my early childhood memories on Dulwich which I did under the title "Memories of a Dulwich Lad". I also mentioned the Crystal Palace fire in this series.

Should you wish to read the series they can be found at http://dulwichonview.org.uk/2011/09/20/memories-of-a-dulwich-lad/

The articles also cover life and social conditions in the immediate post war period from the aspect of my childhood viewpoint. You might find them interesting. Each article has a link to the other articles.

MIckG,  I am late coming aboard to-night having been a guest of the NHS to-day.

Loved your writings and have read  Dulwich Lad 1& 2 and have the pleasure of the rest for to-morrow.

I nearly did not mention re BofCP being as it was an old post, but so glad I did as I now have these
other great stories.

I may have said before the only eway I knew of Dulwich was so many people travelled from that
part of the world when I was working in the City, in those days coming up from the East End made my
friend and I in the minority.

Regards Louise.
