Nellanhoj Hi,
Would I ever think a thing like that??

I have a strange feeling that may-be different CWS run different systems.
I was not in Newham when I had my PROVIDENT cheques and they could as you say only be spent in the
CWS that issued them. I know of no other cheques belonging to them.
I chose the Co-op way because you could trust them and all business was discreet, but must say the
prices were always higher than other stores but there again quality was good.

I do remember hearing of another private firm that run a similar system but they were of a lower class!
and the business was usualy conducted from converted houses, often over shops???

The CWS I am referring to was modernised and extended in about early 60's we had a wonderful range of old and modern goods (1960+ styles). We were dressed, all furnishings, Prams, Lino & Carpets came from this scource. Must not forget my lovely big Service Washing Machine with attatched wringer, how I loved that machine.

Louise

Do not like the modern stores that I have seen all that much!

Louise
10 years later it was all destroyed to all our disgust and a Complex was built for sport, cinema, bingo etc.,
