There is or was  a large bronze plaque set into the wall of stratford market bridge station at the side entrance in bridge rd just off the high street. Its on street view next to a litter bin but unable to read inscription.I think its an ordnance survey benchmark, are there any photos of it before the scrap boys find it.

I think this is the view you are describing Smudger. I don't think it is a bench mark as I can see no upwards pointing arrow. Bench marks normally tend to be carved into the stone or brickwork of a building. Ordnance survey maps normally show the position of these by the letters BM. It it the tip of the arrow that indicates the precise height above sea level. Although I cannot make it out, that looks like it might be the coat of arms of either Newham or West Ham on the plaque.

Yes well done with photo mickg. Have looked at the o/s way marks in stratford and most are by town hall, gurney memorial and the spire of st johns, could this be a borough datum line since it has the coat of arms ? intrigued.

Smudger/Mick
There is a photograph of a plaque at Stratford Market Station on Flickr which unfortunatedly is copyright protected.
The Coat of Arms is that of the London Borough of Newham and the inscription reads as follows:
"This building was built by The Great Eastern Railway Company in 1891-92.
It served the original named station Stratford Bridge which opened on 14th June 1847 and renamed Stratford Market on 1st November 1889 until its closure on 6th May 1957.
The building was refurbished and the interior remodelled in 1995-96 by The Technical Services Department of the London Borough of Newham."
I'm not sure if this is the same plaque as referred to in your posts.
