We mustn't forget the Pick 'n' Mix in Woolworths. I was desperate to have one of the strips of flat lollipops from East Ham Woolworths. They were in strips of about 10 lollies about the size of an old penny but oval. They hung down so you could see all the colours. We weren't exactly deprived but I was never bought one for some reason and had to make do with a traffic light or a 'posh lolly'  Cheesy

MBrennan,
remember the strips well, as my children used to always want one.

My thoughts were probably like your Mums if given the strip they would eat the lot and be sick,
or have a tantrum if you decided to seperate them and have some for another day?

Thinking about it, probably it was my Grandchildren and not my own 50 to 60yr. olds?

Do lose track of time while posting sometimes.

Louise.

Hi Louise,

My age is nearer to your children's than your grandchildren's  Wink - I am 50 in July so remember them from around 1967 - they just looked like paradise to a child. I also remember you used to be able to buy oval shaped lollies singly as well. I remember some that were oval  and quite thick. They were the nicest lollies ever. As I am typing this, it is coming back to me; I think you could buy them in chemists. They were made with glucose and quite expensive compared to sweet shop lollies. Someone mentioned Horlicks sweets recently, it was either the Horlicks tablets or the lollies we were sometimes bought to keep us quiet.  Smiley

I also remember pretending to have a sore throat to get some Galloways  Cheesy - I remember they sold Galloways sweets at some point as well.

Hi Mark I think the small perfumed sweets you mentioned were called Cashews,I seem to remember that they were sold off ration at the end of the War[WW2].

Hi Harry,

I found this http://www.butterflypharmacy.com/printpage1.asp?product_id=908 apparently is is spelled Cachous but pronounced cashews. We also used to buy floral gums. I loved those  Smiley
