Yes Serena, I well recall the barbers shop in North Woolwich Road, it was right next door to Ted Mannings fish shop.  I always had my hair cut there throughout the 1950's.  It was run by Charlie Allen and Jack Monroe and it was the only barbers that services the eleven roads in our West Silvertown Hamlet.

I finished it last night and have really enjoyed it. I like the update at the end. Good to see that some of them have remained friends  Smiley

Regarding the extra photos in e-Books, there wasn't a single photo in the Kindle version which was quite disappointing. I expected them to be at the end. Maybe there is a normal e-Book version with photos? - unless it is because I have a basic £89 Kindle  Huh

I am still baffled at a few of the reviews from people that seem to think it is a novel  Huh - one woman said she was confused by the 1940s parts and thought they must be flashbacks  Cheesy

That's strange - I think there should be photos in the main ebook as well as the individual ones.  I'll ask the publishers.  They are all on our website as well though - www.thesugargirls.com.

Best wishes,

Serena  Stan,
Just a a little gem from the time I had my Haircut at this Barbers ,was working at the top end of K.G.V.dock during the early 60's and needed a long overdue trim on my Beatle cut, so popped into the Barbers mentioned, fell asleep in the Chair only to be woken when he nicked my ear lobe with the razor.don't remember how much blood I lost ,but I went in with a white shirt and finished with adark pink one, the Barber ,( perhaps with years of practice ) reached for the Rizla's slapped one on and assured me I'd be alright.

 All the best ed

A while back, someone here was asking about a Sugar Girls audiobook.  Well, it seems that there is one - but so far it is download only, not on CD.

I'm not sure, but perhaps once you've downloaded it you can burn it onto a CD and listen to it that way?  Otherwise, I guess you need an iPod or something similar to listen to it.

Best wishes,
Duncan

We had a great time with sugar girls Gladys and Eva at the Mayor's Newham Show last weekend - and they even got to meet the mayor himself!

We've written a blog post about the event here - including a video clip of Gladys and Eva reminiscing about life at the factory:

Best wishes,

No doubt it will be bought by Arab royalty  Cheesy

There was another similar house in the area that is just a pile of rubble now that belonged to Lord Leverholme; the founder of Lever Brothers.  Amazing what wealth sugar & soap could bring to a few people  Smiley

This has to be a rip-off of The Sugar Girls. Even the way it has been split into separate stories! -
