A little out of our area I know but I was wondering if anyone knew where there was a photo of the old buses that used to run through the Blackwall Tunnel. I know they were specially shaped to pass round the bends in the tunnel without damaging the roof. The only photos I can find are from the 1950's where the whole roof was shaped but that's not what I mean.
I remember buses that were shaped just on the left hand side (when the tunnel was 2 way) and they had a strange lopsided look ...I suppose I'm looking for the pre-war bus.
Any help gratefully received!

I know the inside tyres of buses, (left hand side when facing the front), were specially reinforced with extra thick wall to the tyres. These were the tyres that were more likely to rub against the kerb due to the narrowness of the road through the tunnel.

You could try Greenwich Heritage Centre and/or Tower Hamlets Bancroft Rd local studies library (which is now open again) as they would certainly have material on the Tunnel.
