Have just been looking at the photos of the church on Newham site.  What a lovely church it is, I have fond memories of it , as when younger I used to pull the bells there.  A campanologist I once was.   Could not manage the tolling one as quite heavy,  but used to play rounds.  I was also married in that church in 1960.  The chapel St Thomas was not there then.   About 25 years ago my Mother bought me a glass bell with name on,  from the church it holds pride of place in my cabinet. Oh the sweet memories.

Hello   Serena

In 1960  i was in church school, and i remember we used to hold our harvest festival  in all saints church,
i only lived across the road from west ham church and i remember the bells ringing on a sunday, it nearly always seemed to be the same tune, do you have any idea of the name of it?

I did hear this tune at  Hornchurch once ,and it took me right back to my childhood ,    i did have mixed feelings about it, sort of sweet and sour!!  i think because, it was the thought of going back to school on the Monday, that sunday nights i did not enjoy too much???
I went past there a few months ago and there seemed to be some building work going on  ,don't know what that's about ?

Regards   Barry

The Church has its own web site,

http://www.westhamchurch.org.uk/

There is a link on it to the `Tower Captain` which should give you the details about the bells.

Hello Poppy,  sorry cannot remember names of tunes,  it was after all in 1952 when I was in the Bell tower .  I do remember a boy called Joe who used to ring the Toll . Do you remember the Vets  called "Davies " on the small parade of shops , near the cinema ,  round corner by  the church?

Hello Barry,Thanks for that information re the bell ringing.  I used to be very good friends with Margaret and Mary Davies daughters of the Vets.  Sadly have lost touch many years ago.  I believe he was the resident Vet for the Greyhounds , at West Ham Stadium.  I worked there in the bars for extra money .
