I wonder what happend to the bolton family.
they were the mainstay of the newsagents back in the late fifties & sixties
joe bolton snr used to have a stool in the doorway of the premier cinema
in the high street.
I remember going to joe bolton jnr,s birthday party in st mary,s church hall
every child got a gift, unusual in those days.
children used to take a gift for the birthday boy..

And who can recall the the chap who worked for Joe Bolton?, the guy who rode the bike ,dropping off the bundles of newspapers to the sellers at East Ham station, and all along the High St, wore glasses, had sandy long coloured hair, and in all weathers only ever wore a singlet or vest even in freezing cold winds , pouring with rain, that memory is so clear.

thanks leslie.
thanks for that memory I remember the guy in the vest.
sometimes he would wear a leather bodywarmer,
I have a feeling that he was one of the brothers of joe.
they were quite a big family.
they were certainly a mainstay of east ham.

I also remember the guy in the vest, I used to do a morning and evening paper round for a Mrs Wheel who had a newsagent and tobacconist shop in Katherine Road, I went to the East Ham school of building in those days. After school I used to go up to East Ham station to collect my papers for the evening delivery. If you hadn't mentioned the guy in the vest I'd never have remembered that I'd done a paper round. Thanks for the memory. Coney

I remember this man quite clearly. I remember him  wearing a sleeveless leather jerkin and flying down the road in the freezing cold without a care in the world!

Some years ago there was another East Ham/West Ham site run by a young man whose name escapes me for the moment and somemone mentioned this newspaper man and there was a flood of memories including the man's name!
